Why & How to Participate in the Central Iowa Local Food Movement Sunday ~ March 16, 2008 Forest Park Museum; Time: 1:30 p.m. Coordinator: Pete Malmberg The local food movement in central Iowa reflects the excitement and growth of the movement nationwide. This movement is building local food systems by connecting people directly with farmers in their community. The result is real and positive changes both for farmers and consumers. By purchasing whole, unadulterated food directly from farmers, we are provided with fresher, tastier and more nutritionally dense food. We can choose to support farms with high environmental benefits to our community while reconnecting to the land and people that provide our sustenance. Farmers, likewise, are reconnecting to those that eat their food and are reaping more of the food dollars we spend and those dollars are staying in our community. There are many ways to participate in the central Iowa local food movement and good reasons to do so. Join Dallas County farmer Rick Hartmann as he explores how to take advantage of local food offerings and why you might want to do so. No registration is required to participate in this free program.
