Small Potatoes Farm is owned and managed by Rick and Stacy Hartmann. That's us below, Stacy is
holding a basket of summer squashes and Rick has a soon to be delivered CSA box.
Rick began marketing exclusively to chefs and specialty groceries in Ames and Des Moines in 2001.
Stacy joined him in 2004. Together they purchased an old farmstead in 2004 and Small Potatoes
Farm was born. They have been improving it ever since.
Just two short years ago, the farmstead looked like this. It's a slow process, but we felt these ten
acres could be put to good use. Many places in similar condition are being burned, bulldozed and
buried to squeeze out an extra few acres for row crop production.

vegetable production at any one time. Our NW
corner includes a couple acres of mature maples
and our north and east border has just been
planted to prairie. The large hay barn in the
background has received most of our attention
so far and now serves as our packing shed.
Small Potatoes now has a reputation for offering
some of the freshest and best quality vegetables
available. Recently, we have been working
directly with families and individuals though our
CSA. This has been very rewarding to us and we
hope to expand this option for people in central
Iowa who love healthy, fresh, seasonal food.
