Small Potatoes Farm is owned and managed by Rick and Stacy Hartmann. That's us below.
Rick began marketing exclusively to chefs and specialty groceries in Ames and Des Moines in 2001.
Stacy joined him in 2004. Together they purchased an old farmstead in 2004 and Small Potatoes
Farm was born. They have been improving it ever since.
Eight years ago, the farmstead looked like this. It's a slow process, but we felt these ten acres could
be put to good use. Many places in similar condition are being burned, bulldozed and buried to
squeeze out an extra few acres for row crop production.

Our ten acres has about three in organic corner
includes a couple acres of mature maples and
our north and east border have been planted to
prairie. Our large hay barn received most of our
attention the first seven years and has been
restored and painted. Last year we built a new
packing shed.
Small Potatoes now has a reputation for offering
some of the freshest and best quality vegetables
available. Our production centers around working
directly with families and individuals though our
CSA. This has been very rewarding to us and we
have a stable community of people supporting
our farm and our sustainable farming practices.
In return, we provide them with the farm's weekly
harvest throughout the growing season.
